Why cleaning alone never lasts

Mould is a living organism that grows wherever there is moisture and a food source. When you wipe it off with a cloth or spray, you remove what you can see — but the spores are microscopic and the underlying dampness is untouched. Within days or weeks, the colony regrows in exactly the same spot. If you've cleaned the same patch more than once, that's the tell-tale sign the real problem is deeper than the surface.

The real reason it returns

In almost every Cyprus home we visit, the recurring mould traces back to one of a handful of moisture sources: condensation on cold walls and windows, rising damp in ground-floor and basement rooms, a slow hidden leak, or simply poor ventilation trapping humid air. Until that source is dealt with, no amount of scrubbing will keep the surface clear.

How to actually stop it coming back

Permanent results come from a three-part approach: find and fix the moisture source, remove the contaminated material properly (not just the surface film), and protect the area so it can't take hold again. For light surface mould that means an anti-microbial mould treatment and improved airflow. For anything that has soaked into plaster, or keeps returning, it means professional mould removal — sometimes including re-plastering with a breathable, salt-resistant render.

Keeping it gone for good

Once an area is treated, the last piece is ongoing moisture control: keeping indoor humidity down, ventilating bathrooms and kitchens, and re-checking problem spots.
